A note to staff and students from Dr Gill Rider, Chair of Council:
“The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Don Nutbeam, has informed Council of his intention to retire from the position of Vice-Chancellor no later than the beginning of the 2016-17 academic year in order to pursue his academic interests in public health.
The timing of the decision provides the Council the opportunity to conduct an international search for his successor. This search will commence in the coming weeks.
In the next two years the Vice-Chancellor’s priorities will be to lead the implementation of the University’s Vision 2020 strategy that was approved by Council in March 2014.
We will have time later to thank Don for his significant contribution to the University. For now let me say how extremely grateful I am for the leadership Don has shown during this period of unprecedented changes in the sector. Our education, research, international activities and ambitions have developed and grown over the last five years and we are now set on a path for future success.”
