£100 to participate in new research study

We are recruiting healthy male and female volunteers, aged between 18 and 55 years, to participate in a new research study funded by the Medical Research Council. The study is investigating the effects of established drug treatments in a new experimental model of anxiety (inhalation of air enriched with 7.5 per cent carbon dioxide – CO2).

You will complete a detailed health screening interview to assess your eligibility. You will then be randomised to take either a two week course of a placebo pill, or a two week course of memantine (a drug that has efficacy in anxiety). You will then be asked to attend a single three hour testing session on the last day of the treatment phase at which you will be asked to complete some questionnaires assessing mood and anxiety, and two computerised tasks whilst inhaling a safe gas mixture of air enriched with 7.5 per cent CO2 for twenty minutes, and normal air for twenty minutes. Participants will receive £100 upon completing the study.

If you are interested in finding out more please email Susan Bamford: [email protected] to request a copy of the study information sheet and to arrange a pre-screening interview.
