Two members of the University Council, Ros Rivaz, Deputy Chair, and Dr David Price recently visited the Malaysia Campus to investigate the future possibilities of expanding the campus.
The Council members, accompanied by colleagues including Professor Mark Spearing, Pro-Vice Chancellor (International), and Professor John McBride, the Chief Executive Officer of USMC had a busy week of engagements, visiting colleagues at other UK Universities – in EduCity, and elsewhere in Johor, and Kuala Lumpur. They also met with senior colleagues at Iskandar Investment, the British High Commission, and the Ministry of Education, as well as senior figures in industry where the University has strategic links, such as Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems and Lloyds Register. These meetings, as well as a flying visit to the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star) in Singapore, gave the Council members a full picture of private Higher Education, and transnational education and research in Malaysia and the context in which it exists.
Ros Rivaz commented that some of the meetings had not only been useful contextually, but also inspirational. Professor McBride commented that he was delighted that the Council members had been able to visit Malaysia, and it had been a pleasure to spend time with them”.
