The third Open Day of 2014 was held at our Malaysia Campus last month. It attracted around 115 visitors to our Campus which included 40 Science students from a local secondary school, SMK Dato’ Jaafar. The Open Day was promoted via emails, bunting, posters, postcards, newspaper advertisements, press releases, websites and facebook.
37 per cent of visitors were interested in our MEng Mechanical Engineering programme, 23 per cent in our MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) programme, 29 per cent in our Foundation Programme* and 11 per cent in our MEng Aeronautics and Astronautics* programme.
*These programmes are subject to MQA approval.
Visitors were organised into two groups, each attending talks, laboratory tours, a bus tour and an ISV tour. In the Mechanical Engineering workshop, Dr Pu demonstrated the use of the 3D printer and explained how 3D drawing worked, using computer-aided design (CAD) software. He then showed students a feature in the New Scientist on Southampton’s 3D printed remote-controlled aeroplane. During the workshop, students were given hands-on experience of 3D drawing which involved creating an extrusion and an extruded cut to complete a gear design.
The visitors enjoyed the day and were impressed by the bus tour as they were able to see how much Nusajaya had to offer, such as high-end residential areas, supermarkets, restaurants and shopping malls.
Our next Open Day is on 16 August and we look forward to welcoming you then.
