Dr Wendy Wigley named Queen’s Nurse

Wendy WigleyCongratulations to Dr Wendy Wigley who has been given the prestigious title of Queen’s Nurse (QN) by community nursing charity The Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI).

The title is not an award for past service, but indicates a commitment to high standards of patient care, learning and leadership. Nurses who hold the title benefit from developmental workshops, bursaries, networking opportunities, and a shared professional identity.

Wendy has been at the University of Southampton for eight years and leads the programme in public health practice.

Wendy said: “I am delighted to be given such a distinguished award. Nursing and the standards of nursing are integral to ensuring the client patient is put at the centre of their care and treatment. We should all be doing more to ensure the standards of nursing develop and improve for the benefit of all age ranges across the lifespan; focusing upon service integration in the community and the transition between the client’s home and the hospital settings.”

Crystal Oldman, Chief Executive of the QNI said: “Congratulations are due to Wendy for her success. Community nurses operate in an ever more challenging world and our role is to support them as effectively as we can. The QN title is a key part of this and we would encourage other community nurses to apply.”

Wendy will receive her award at a special ceremony in November.
