University researchers amongst the world’s ‘most influential scientific minds’

A total of nine of our University academics feature in ‘The Most Influential Scientific Minds 2014’. Congratulations go to the Southampton researchers featured:

Dr Graham Burdge – Human Nutrition
Professor Philip Calder – Nutritional Immunology
Professor Cyrus Cooper – Musculoskeletal Science/Lifecourse Epidemiology
Professor Philip Gale – Supramolecular Chemistry
Professor Mark Hanson – Cardiovascular Science
Professor Alan Jackson – Human Nutrition
Professor Terence Langdon – Materials Science
Dr Karen Lillycrop – Epigenetics/Biological Sciences
Dr Emma Phillips – Cell Biology/Biochemistry

Within the prestigious Russell Group of UK universities, Southampton has the fifth highest number of researchers featured on the list behind only Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London and University College London.

According to Thomson-Reuters, who compiled and published the list, “everyone acknowledged in the list is a person of influence in the sciences and social sciences. It is precisely this type of recognition – recognition by peers in the form of citations – that makes their status meaningful. They are the people who are on the cutting edge of their fields . . . performing and publishing work that their peers recognize as vital to the advancement of their science.”
