A new online incident reporting system has been launched. This is accessible through the Safety & Occupational Health website to all staff and students with a University username and password.
The new system provides a means to report injury accidents, work-related illnesses, fire incidents, environmental incidents, and near-misses. It is very important that all such incidents, including near-misses, are promptly reported and investigated. This is not to assign blame, but rather to find the causes and so identify corrective actions to prevent such an incident happening again. The new system also includes a hazard reporting feature.
The new system is quick and easy to use, and includes an investigation function for Faculty and Service Health & Safety Officers. It is much more robust than the previous system, and also will readily produce useful data for assurance and benchmarking. The new system was jointly developed in-house by Safety & Occupational Health and Estates & Facilities. Please ensure that you and your colleagues (staff and PGRs) use the new system to report all incidents, including near-misses. Please also complete reports for incidents and near-misses involving visitors or contractors, and for colleagues who do not have access to a computer.
