The Excel Southampton Awards ceremony took place at the Central Hall in Southampton on Thursday 18 September to celebrate the unique and valuable contribution of students and also to recognise the fantastic opportunities provided by host employers through the Excel Southampton Placement Programme.
Professor Alex Neill, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education presented awards, based around the University’s values of Excellence, Creativity, Community and Integrity, to students from different faculties who had participated in the programme. The Outstanding Achievement award was presented to Oliver Reed for his outstanding contribution during his eight week placement, his achievements included saving the department £30,000 in equipment costs.
This year saw the introduction of two additional awards aimed at employers who hosted Excel placements on campus or within their business/organisation.
It was a fantastic event with 230 people in attendance. Congratulations to everyone who was nominated and particularly to those who won an award. The Excel Placement Programme opens again shortly and placement opportunities will be advertised from 3 November 2014.
