Over the summer, a team of 19 student interns, working in partnership with students and staff across the University, have laid the groundwork for the launch of our new interactive directory – called Opus (‘Opportunities at the University of Southampton’)
The website will allow students to discover and navigate the options available to them and filter the choices based on their field of study, interests or the skills they would like to develop.
The aim of the work, which is part of the wider Southampton Opportunity initiative, is to increase awareness of the opportunities that are available to students at the University – and the skills that they are developing while pursuing their studies – that will help prepare them for successful and fulfilling futures.
Professor Alex Neill, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education, said: “While we want students to use the site to find opportunities to support their skills development and interests, we hope that it will also help them to understand the sort of competencies that they are already developing from what they are involved in, and encourage them to think about how what they are doing now might inform their future career direction.”
The Opus website will shortly be launched ‘in beta’, meaning that students will have time to explore and use an early version of the site before the team call for comments and ideas for the next version.
The Southampton Opportunity team will be hosting a showcase event on 26 November, where staff will be able to find out more about the initiative. More information will be published shortly.
If you have any questions about the work, please email the Opus team and follow us on Twitter.
