ILIaD System Lunchtime Seminar – Flipped Learning combined with Learning Analytics and MOOCs

workstations studentsThe new University Institute for Learning Innovation and Development is delighted to announce the first in the new series of ILIaD System Lunchtime Seminars: Flipped Learning combined with Learning Analytics and MOOCs; presented by Richard Treves.

Thursday 23 October, 12:30-14:00, 34/1020, Highfield Campus.

In a traditional lecture series, students would learn theory in the lecture theatre and practice skills (e.g. via problem sheets) at home.  In flipped learning students study theory at home and consolidate their learning with activities in class.  Often the home work consists of watching short screencast videos (similar to those found in many MOOCs) but the technique includes more traditional activities such as readings.

The technique has been used in a Geography course (UOSM2002) for two years and has proved effective and popular with students.  The session will outline the lessons learnt from the experience and explain some ongoing research:

  • how it makes producing a MOOC based on the same course easier;
  • the power of combining it with Learning Analytics.

Light refreshments will be provided. Please book your place for free on our Eventbrite site.
