UCU Assessment Boycott – information for students

Dear students,

The Universities and Colleges Union (UCU) has asked its members to take action short of a strike from Thursday 6 November 2014, in support of a national disagreement relating to the proposed changes to the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS). The University has now been formally notified by the Union, that this action will take the form of a boycott of all setting, marking and assessment activity.

Our primary concern is that our students are not disadvantaged by this proposed action and that there is minimal disruption to your studies and progression. The University has established processes to manage this type of disruption and will be working hard with your representatives at the Students’ Union (SUSU) and other colleagues to implement contingency plans, so that you can continue with your studies and assessments as planned.

You should continue with your studies and preparations for exams and assessments as normal. Should there be any variation to your academic schedule you will be notified by your faculty’s Student Office.

It is the University’s sincere hope that this dispute will be resolved  as quickly as possible.

Yours sincerely

Professor Adam Wheeler

Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor
