To celebrate the launch of the new first-year English module ‘Multimedia Old English: Song Skin and Cyberspace’, Avenue Campus will be hosting an ‘Old English Flashmob’ on Monday 17 November, 10.00.
The event will include an interactive ‘wordhord’ art installation, mead tasting, ‘Saxon Selfies’ with a replica Sutton Hoo helmet, material and virtual replica artefacts, and research from the University and beyond.
Old English was the vernacular language of the Anglo-Saxons, who ruled Britain in the centuries before the Norman Conquest. Old English is also the oldest vernacular literature of medieval Europe, and includes poetry, riddles, homilies, chronicles and scientific texts. Perhaps the best-known Old English poem is Beowulf – a tale of heroes, monsters and dragons.
Students and staff are all welcome to drop in and join us at the Avenue Campus, Building 65, North Corridor, 10.oo – 15.00.
