Placement students share their experiences

Students returning from placements share their stories, as part of a Faculty of Business and Law conference on Friday 5 December.

The students, employed by organisations such as IBM, Renault UK, L’Oréal, and local businesses, presented their experiences through a variety of creative “day in the life” videos. An audience of first and second year students from Southampton Business School, who will be looking for their own placements soon, were inspired by what they saw.

Kaya Stefferud, who is employed on her placement by local technology company Nine23 Ltd, spoke of the benefits of a placement; “I know how hard the competition is out there, and I think it’s great to get a head start before I graduate from university. Graduating with practical experience is a huge benefit, and it will be easier in my final year at university to tie this experience with the academic theory from my university degree”.

Placement students were accompanied by their line managers, who promoted the various opportunities on offer in their organisations.

Placement Advisor Rob Jack said, “it’s great to see so many employers connecting with our students, promoting opportunities which offer valuable industrial experience. It is particularly inspiring to see how much our students are developing during their placement, which will undoubtedly boost their graduate success in the years to come”.
