The University has made changes to its travel and personal accident insurance cover, relating to all staff and postgraduates travelling on University business and University organised and supervised field trips.
The main change is the addition of a £100 excess to apply to medical expense claims, cancellation/curtailment and rearrangement claims, and property and money claims. The £50/hour payment for departure delay exceeding 4 hours has now also been removed.
This change in policy will affect all trips with a start date after 31 December 2014.
Please ensure that all old copies of the summary of cover that you hold are removed and replaced with the new version as of 1 January 2015. These can be downloaded from the insurance office webpages.
Reason for changes:
- There has been a substantial premium increase at renewal (81%), which has been absorbed centrally and not passed on to the Faculties and Professional Services
- We’ve recently had a poor claims experience compared with other Universities within our purchasing consortiums
- Because of these changes, there is a possibility of substantial excesses being imposed upon the cover if we do not act now
