Professor Jane Falkingham joins 1.5 million people for Breakfast

Dean of Social and Human Sciences, Professor Jane Falkingham has appeared on BBC Breakfast as part of a live TV broadcast focusing on life expectancy and our ageing population.

Jane Falkingham

Jane, Director of the ESRC Centre for Population Change (CPC) based at the University, was interviewed by presenter John Maguire throughout the programme about how people living longer in the future will affect issues such as retirement, health and careers.

The backdrop to the live slot on Friday 16 January at The Lowry arts venue in Manchester was an exhibition about ageing called ‘How to get to 100 and enjoy it’, which CPC staff toured around the UK in Autumn 2014.  The displays and interactive content were reconstructed especially for the BBC after a request by TV producers for it to feature in Breakfast, which attracts around 1.5 million viewers.  The special edition of the programme concluded a series of features by the broadcaster exploring the changing attitudes to old age and society.
