Students from the University’s Malaysia Campus got to step inside the world of Premier League football players and fans during a tour of St Mary’s Stadium, home of the Saints.
The students, who are in Southampton for the final two years of their MEng in Mechanical Engineering, viewed the Club’s trophy cabinet, toured the home and away team dressing rooms, visited the post-match interview area, went pitch side via the ‘tunnel’ and viewed the pitch from one of the venue’s hospitality boxes.”
The students also joined the English football tradition by receiving and wearing Saints’ scarves, courtesy of a local radio station, Jack FM.
Student GemKiat Teh said “The experience of visiting the stadium is amazing; I can’t believe we’re here! I just want Southampton to keep on winning and reach the Champions League next season!”
The University and the Club have long enjoyed a strong relationship. In recent years, University researchers have teamed up with the Club to find ways of preventing injuries and protecting players from developing arthritis in later life. And less than 12 months ago, the relationship was strengthened further with the appointment of Southampton alumnus, Gareth Rogers as Chief Executive of the Club.
