Staff and students are invited to this presentation about Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) at 19:00 to 21:00 on Thursday 19 February in Nuffield Lecture Theatre A, Highfield Campus.
Dr Edward Armstrong (a doctor returning from his first MSF mission) and Didier Dequatre (a current student in Physiotherapy and an ex-Logistic Director and project co-ordinator for MSF) will talk about their careers and how they started with MSF.
Dr. Edward Armstrong completed his first MSF mission in low-intensity conflict area on the border between Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh states in India. The area was affected by the Naxalite insurgency – an ongoing conflict between the Maoists (Naxalites) and the Indian government.
Didier Dequatre will discuss his personal experiences with MSF in Conflict and non-conflict areas in Burundi, Afghanistan, Congo Brazzaville and Liberia. He will also share his current understanding of the place of physiotherapy in MSF’s context.
