QAA Higher Education Review – update

_3JB4455

Dear colleagues

On Thursday 5 February the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) panel concluded its Higher Education Review visit to our University.

The overall aim of Higher Education Review is to inform students and the wider public as to whether the University:

  • sets and maintains UK-agreed academic standards for its higher education qualifications
  • provides learning opportunities which allow students to achieve the relevant awards and qualifications and meet the applicable Expectations outlined in the Quality Code, including the UK-wide reference points it endorses
  • provides information that is fit for purpose, accessible and trustworthy for the general public, prospective students, current students, students on completion of their studies, and those with responsibility for academic standards and quality
  • plans effectively to enhance the quality of its higher education provision.

It is now two weeks since the review panel left us and in line with their process they have today sent us a letter outlining their key findings, which are broadly very positive.

The QAA has a clear schedule for releasing its judgements into the public domain, and we now await their draft review report.  That should be with us on 19 March, after which we have 3 weeks to provide any necessary factual corrections. Assuming that this progresses positively the QAA will then publish its report on 30 April 2015 and we will then all be able to see their more detailed findings.

With best wishes,

Alex Neill
