Staff and students are invited to a time of quiet followed by a discussion on the Quaker commitment to equality from 12:30 – 13:45 on Tuesday 24 February at the University Chaplaincy, Highfield Campus. This is a great event for anyone interested in finding out more about Quaker beliefs, or discussing the application of its principles.
The discussion will be led by Dr. Frank Boulton who is our Quaker chaplaincy advisor and a former consultant haematologist and Honorary Lecturer within the Faculty of Medicine.
Frank is starting a series of discussions on the principles of Quakerism: this first discussion will focus on the Quaker idea of equality which, in essence, treats all people, male, female, and of any age as equal and ‘a Child of God’.
The ‘Testimony to Equality’ leads among other things to the ideas of pacifism, prison reform, no slavery, commercial probity, refusal of oath-taking, and recognition of cultural and artistic diversity.
