Southampton Psychologists excited to be bringing ‘Identity Detectives’ to Big Bang Fair 2015

Psychologists from Southampton will be challenging young people to think for themselves about who and what we are at a major national science event.

identity detectivesThe Big Bang Fair in Birmingham (11-14 March) will showcase exciting up-to-the-minute research and encourage pupils to think about a career as a scientist or engineer.

Dr Sarah Stevenage leads Southampton’s team of multidisciplinary SuperIdentity’ researchers from psychology, law and technology who have put together three fascinating hands-on activities for eight to 14 year olds on the theme of The Identity Detectives:

  • The Hand Stand uses thermal and infrared cameras to examine hands, and learn important information from their size, shape and texture
  • The Walkway examines how people walk and how analysts can use this information to understand more about us
  • The Avatar stand looks at why we choose particular online icons or avatars and what they reveal to the outside world

Dr Sarah Stevenage said about the event,

“Through these fun activities, we want to enthuse and motivate young people to get involved and make a difference.”
