Consultation on proposed changes to USS

A 60 day consultation period (16 March – 22 May) is underway into the proposed changes to the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS), a national pension scheme many of our staff are members of.

If you would be impacted by the proposed changes and you are already a member of the USS pension scheme, or if you are eligible to become a USS member, you will have received a letter informing you of the consultation period and of the opportunity to comment on the proposals.

Understanding the proposed changes

You can find more information about the proposed changes on the employer consultation website including the option to watch a video explaining the proposed changes.

Scheme members will also be able to estimate their potential future benefits under these reform proposals by using an online benefits estimator provided by USS (this is still to be added to the consultation site).

The process to date

This consultation follows extensive negotiations, which led to the USS Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC) agreeing a proposal for the reform of the USS pension scheme. You can learn more about the process to date via the ‘pensions discussions’  category on SUSSED.

If you have any questions that cannot be answered using the information and resources on the consultation website, please email [email protected]
