A key milestone has been reached in the creation of Southampton’s new £22m Arts Complex in Guildhall Square, with members of the city council and the University attending its topping out ceremony.

The Arts Complex is due for completion in 2016. When it opens, the University’s acclaimed John Hansard Gallery will occupy the south building, moving from its current Highfield campus location. Sharing the building with them will be city-based filmmaking organisation City Eye.

At the topping out ceremony it was announced that Nuffield will be the operating company for the adjoining performing arts building, while continuing to run its highly successful theatre on the Highfield Campus site. Nuffield will also take a strategic lead role in co-ordinating creative partnerships within the complex and the city, working closely with the John Hansard Gallery and City Eye.
