The Big Give returns with big events and big donations

RAG’s annual The Big Give is set to begin a week-long effort to get every student and staff to donate at least £1 in the ‘Give a pound, change a life’ campaign. This year all money raised will go towards three meaningful charities; Solent Mind, Teenage Cancer Trust and WaterAid.

Running from Monday 27 April to Sunday 3 May, RAG has also organized several events – like favourites Take Me Out and ComedySoc’s end-of-year RAGatouille, with new additions like Lost and Southampton Colour Run to get you involved.

Last year The Big Give raised £4,649.43 meaning:

  • Motor Neurone Disease Association could provide 155 Information packs for a person newly diagnosed with MND or could pay for laboratory equipment for 31 days
  • Médecins Sans Frontiéres (Doctors without Borders) could purify 380,550,000 litres of water or provide 37 home delivery kits helping to ensure a safe delivery at home for 185 mothers and their babies.

Jenny Bortoluzzi, RAG Officer, said of the busy and exciting week ahead,

“I’m looking forward to seeing people get involved in loads of different ways. This year is set to be a challenging yet very promising edition and we are very optimistic that we will beat our previous totals, which will make a huge difference to our charities!”

Visit the Facebook event page for more details and a full list of everything going on, and come along to RAG’s Big Give Champions meeting on Tuesday 21 April to find out how you can volunteer.
