Budding staff and student entrepreneurs who are looking to create a new business or develop the latest tech innovation are invited to Startup Weekend Southampton at the University from Friday 1 to Sunday 3 May.

The student-led event will enable technical and non-technical entrepreneurs to collaborate on new projects and create a business idea within 54 hours.

Beginning with Friday night pitches and continuing through brainstorming, business plan development, and basic prototype creation, the Startup Weekend culminates in Sunday night demos and presentations to a panel of expert judges.

This year’s Startup Weekend, the fourth to take place in Southampton, is based around ‘Life Hacks’ – creations and innovations that make people’s lives a bit easier and better. Organisers will provide some of the latest wearable technology and hardware for participants to ‘hack’ on.

The non-profit event, which is open to students and the public, will take place on Highfield Campus. It will also feature a number of talks and mentoring sessions from business and technology professionals, as well as presentations on the latest technology.

Tahlie Cooper, University student and event organiser for the Startup weekend says:

“The weekend is centred around action, innovation and education. Whether you are looking for feedback on an idea, a co-founder, specific skill sets or a team to help you execute, Startup Weekends are the perfect environment in which to test your idea and take the first steps towards launching your own startup.”
