Congratulations to the winners of the Excellence in Volunteering Awards

Last week, students from across the University were recognised for their volunteering efforts over the last year. The awards celebrate individual students and societies who have made a difference to others in voluntary work alongside their degree.

Collaboration

Winner: LGBT History Month Working Group – for organising multiple events across the month and creating a bespoke magazine, collaborating with the Wessex Scene and the Edge, to celebrate LGBT History Month.

Highly Commended: Lydia Butler and Jack Merrifield

 

Impact

Winner: Becky Ivell – for becoming the most successful student fundraiser in the country this year for Action Against Hunger.

Highly Commended: Enactus and Southampton Hub Committee

 

Engagement

Winner: Aurora Justice – for her development work on the Southampton Hub Committee; organising a conference and campaign stalls to engage students.

Highly Commended: AISEC and Southampton SSAGO (Student Scout and Guide Organisation)

 

Innovation

Winner: Enactus – for their development of new project to create eco fuel and their nationwide retirement transition initiative.

Highly Commended: Madlaina Michelotti and the Sustainability Festival Committee (Southampton Hub) and Andrew Clark

 

Commitment

Winner: Jade Head – for her dedication to many areas of SUSU, including her role this year as a student trustee.

Highly Commended: Leon Rea and Iain Tinkler

 

Leadership

Winner: Jenny Bortoluzzi – for her leadership of Raise and Give (RAG) this academic year, engaging more members and raising awareness of RAG.

Highly Commended: Simon Bidwell and Ellie Seaby

 

Alongside these six categories, 10 students were selected for The Volunteer Award, which gives them Honorary Lifetime Membership to SUSU. These students were Shruti Verma, Frazer Delves, Nicholas Wong, Jack Harvey, Lydia Butler, Josh Hasdell, Tahlie Cooper, Sam Bailey, Madlaina Michelotti and Simon Bidwell.
