Programme launched to encourage teaching staff to apply for National Teaching Fellowship Scheme

Lecture 2

The Higher Education Academy (HEA) runs an annual National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS) to celebrate outstanding individual achievements in learning and teaching in UK higher education. This prestigious award is regarded as the highest level of professional recognition of excellence and innovation in all aspects of education.

The University currently has four National Teaching Fellows, but we know there is a great deal of equally outstanding learning and teaching work conducted by colleagues throughout the institution that deserves this level of recognition.

ILIaD is pleased to announce that we are now launching a University NTFS Programme where we aim to identify and support colleagues with their nomination for this award.  Through this programme we will:

  • Run a series of NTFS award workshops covering the details of the programme, how to apply to be put forward by the University, and the support you will receive with your application.
  • Invite potential candidates to submit a brief document to the University NTFS panel who will identify a shortlist of a maximum of three candidates to be nominated by the University per academic year.
  • Support nominees in the development of their nomination documents ready for submission.
  • Mentor candidates who might need further time to produce an evidence base with the aim to submit a nomination in the future.

The programme is being led by Simon Kemp, National Teaching Fellow (2010) and winner of the Times Higher Education Most Innovative Teacher of the Year (2013).  The programme is also being supported by Professor Mike Wald, National Teaching Fellow (2010) and winner of the Times Higher Education Outstanding ICT Initiative of the Year (2013), Professor Carol Evans, National Teaching Fellow (2014), and Professor Faith Hill, National Teaching Fellow (2009).

All colleagues involved in teaching are welcome to attend.

If you are interested in the programme the first NTFS workshop will take place on Tuesday 23rd June at 12:30-2pm, building 67 / room 1003 (a light lunch will be provided). Reserve your space here.

Further workshops will take place on Tuesday 14th July and Thursday 10th September.  (more details to follow)
