£1m gift helps to launch the Campaign for the Centre for Cancer Immunology

At last week’s Southampton launch event for the campaign, Professor Iain Cameron, Dean of Medicine, announced that a £1m gift has been given by the Wilkinson Charitable Trust in recognition of the University’s essential role in translating the work of researchers in the laboratory into directing treatments for people with cancer.

The generosity of a Guernsey-based charitable trust, set up by Guernsey residents Jim and the late Peggy Wilkinson, will go a long way to helping us realise our goal of building a new world-leading research centre in cancer immunology.

Our research was brought to the attention of the trust by alumnus Chris Bound. Chris hopes that the gift will cement the long standing relationship between the Channel Islands and Southampton’s expertise in cancer research and treatment, which has already benefited patients like six-year-old Xano who travelled from Jersey for his treatment.

All gifts, no matter their size, are important to the success of the campaign and we hope this significant gift will inspire many more individuals to become involved with this amazing opportunity to cure cancer.
