Academics are invited to attend two sessions on how to run successful MOOCs or massive open online courses.
If you are looking for good practice in delivering online materials, please register to join us at The Avenue Campus 16 June or at National Oceanography Centre 24 June.
In 2014-2015, the University ran the popular ‘Shipwrecks and Submerged Worlds: Maritime Archaeology’ via FutureLearn.
The 4 week MOOC was developed by staff in the internationally leading Centre for Maritime Archaeology and attracted over 10,000 learners.
The June training sessions will be run by the MOOC academic team who will share their experiences of delivering the Shipwreck course. It will be followed by roundtable demonstrations of pedagogies, Open Educational Resources, tools used and opportunities for finding practical applications in teaching
What is a MOOC?
A massive open online course (MOOC) is a free study programme designed to be studied online by large numbers of students.
In addition to the usual course materials such as video lectures, reading material, coursework and tests, MOOCs provide forums that help students and tutors build an online community
Further information about MOOCs can be found on the free online learning page
