Professor Dame Jessica Corner, Dean of Health Sciences, is announced as the new University Equality and Diversity Champion, taking over from Professor Jeremy Howells.
In this role, Jessica will be the University’s senior advocate and strategic leader for equality, diversity and inclusion in the University.
Jessica not only has a distinguished career in Health Sciences, where she was recognised for services to cancer research and palliative care in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list 2014, but has long been an advocate for equality and diversity, supporting gender equality and championing women academics throughout her career. In taking on this role Jessica says:
‘I am really excited to be taking on the role of Equality and Diversity Champion for the University.
Although strides forward have been made with this agenda there is still much to do to create an environment where the opportunity to learn, research and develop a career within the University is a real possibility for everyone, I will be working to do whatever I can to support this’
The Vice-Chancellor welcomed Professor Corner’s appointment, saying:
“I am delighted that Jessica Corner has agreed to become the University’s new Equality and Diversity Champion.
Equality and Diversity are central to making the University a vibrant and successful organisation, and Jessica will be building on our very positive track record in this area. I would also like to thank Jeremy Howells, the previous Diversity Champion, for all his work over the last few years.”
