Introducing Windows 8.1 to Common Learning Spaces

In preparation for the new academic year, the University will be replacing the current Windows 7 software with Windows 8.1 in August 2015. This upgrade will be in place across all Common Learning Space (CLS) workstations.

The upgrade will mean faster start up times, and allow the University to upgrade to the latest versions of other software that is in place. This will allow less waiting, and more potential for productivity for both staff and students.

Windows 8.1 will additionally give an update to Office 2013, which involves new updates. This Lynda playlist can be used to familiarise staff and students with the changes.

Although the system upgrade to Windows 8.1’s desktop will look similar to the current Windows 7 build, staff will still have the option to return to the classic view of Windows 7, but with all the benefits of Windows 8.1.

iSolutions have provided more information about what Windows 8.1 means for our Common Learning Spaces in preparation for the upgrade in August.
