We are delighted to announce that the campaign launch was officially celebrated last night with a special event at Somerset House. Hosted by our Vice-Chancellor, Don Nutbeam, we welcomed over 100 guests in what turned out to be a successful evening.
Our esteemed panel included Professor Peter Johnson, Professor of Medical Oncology at the University and Chief Clinician of Cancer Research UK, and Dr Mark Porter, Medical Correspondent for The Times and resident doctor on The One Show.
They spoke about the exciting new therapies which mobilise our own immune system to recognise and attack cancers and how these are showing greater success than traditional treatments in many hard to beat cancers. The panel was also joined by one of our clinical trial patients, Julie Davis, who underwent successful immunotherapy treatment for advanced follicular lymphoma in 2011. You can read her full, inspirational story on the campaign website
At the end of the event, we shared the campaign’s latest video, thanking all those who have supported the campaign in some way and celebrating being over half way to achieving our final goal of £25m. You can watch it here. Please do share it.
Finally, it was fantastic to see so many bake sales taking place across the University yesterday to help celebrate the launch. Thank you to everyone involved.
We raised a grand total of is £1,370 which will go directly towards the new Centre. If you still have donations to contribute towards the bake sale total please contact Kat Carter
