Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Adam Wheeler to step down

Professor Adam Wheeler is to step down from his post as Deputy Vice-Chancellor with effect from the end of December.

Adam has had a long career with the University beginning in 1995 when he took up the post of Professor of Industrial Applied Mathematics having been at the University of Bristol for 10 years. During his time at Southampton, Adam has made significant and wide ranging contributions to the University’s development, originally as Dean of Mathematical Studies to which he was appointed in 1999 and later as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (2002-15). He also served as Provost (2010-14).

Announcing his departure, Adam said:

“Being part of the leadership of the University of Southampton for over a decade has been enormously rewarding. It has been a great pleasure and inspiration to work with our talented staff and students to help them make the University such a wonderful and successful place. The University’s strong academic performance places it very well to climb to greater heights in the years ahead under the leadership of Professor Sir Christopher Snowden”

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Don Nutbeam said:

“Adam has been an extraordinary source of personal advice and support as my Deputy throughout my period as Vice-Chancellor. He has provided exemplary service to the great benefit of the University over a 20 year period, and has many accomplishments to look back on with enormous pride. Adam has earned our grateful thanks, and we wish him well on this next stage in his life journey.”
