University maintains international standard for environmental management

The University has maintained its EcoCampus Platinum accreditation, following assessment by external auditors earlier this month.

Highfield_CampusThe accreditation is the equivalent of ISO 14001, which is the international standard for environmental management.

The University first received the Platinum award and ISO 14001 certification in July 2014, following three years’ work to implement a system for managing and minimising harm to the environment on our campuses. The Sustainability team have prepared an infographic which celebrates this achievement.

Lucy Potashnick, the Environment and Sustainability Manager, said:

“Thank you to all staff and students whose every day actions help us to continually improve and create a more sustainable University. We can be proud that our work has been been recognised in this accreditation.”

Colleagues may find that they can include this accreditation on research grant proposals, to make them even more competitive.

Staff who have volunteered as Sustainability Officers will find out more about the recent audit at a lunchtime session on 29 July. To join the network, email [email protected].
