In June 2015, Senate endorsed a set of proposals presented by Professor James Vickers for establishing a Doctoral College.

The Doctoral College will act as a unifying and coordinating body to develop and manage doctoral research provision across the University and partner organisations, working with the Faculty Graduate Schools and other groups.

It will raise the profile of doctoral research at the University, internally and externally, and will provide a focal point for doctoral training, champion researcher development and nurture a more collaborative research community.

Furthermore, it will strengthen the University’s capacity to respond to changes to the funding of postgraduate research training and help the institution to attract doctoral researchers from around the world.

The Doctoral College will be established from 1 September 2015 and will be governed by a  Doctoral College Board that will report to Senate and the Academic Quality and Standards Committee.
