Professor Peter G.R. Smith has been confirmed as the new Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor International.
The position is for a period of three years with effect from April 2015. In his new post, Peter will be supporting Professor Mark Spearing (Provost and Pro Vice-Chancellor International), and taking a leading role in working with Partner Institutions, the Worldwide Universities Network and in representing the institution internationally.
Professor Smith has worked at the University since 1994, conducting research within the Optoelectronics Research Centre and teaching in Electronics and Computer Science.
Professor Smith commented:
“I am thrilled to be taking on this new role. I have been in Southampton for over 20 years but still only know a fraction of what goes on! In this cross-University role I am really looking forward to meeting colleagues widely across the University, and working with them to present their excellence in research, education and enterprise to an international audience.”
Provost Mark Spearing comments:
“I am delighted that Peter has taken on this role. As an active researcher, and with a wide knowledge of the institution, he will help raise the University’s profile and will continue the excellent work he undertook in FPSE in the International arena.”
