Dario Vignali, a PhD student under the supervision of Professor Steve Elliott and Dr Ben Lineton in the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR), received the prize for the Best Student Paper at the 22nd International Congress on Sound and Vibration (ICSV22) in Florence.
Dario’s work involves modelling the properties of the human cochlea and running simulations that predict events occurring inside the human ear.
On winning the award, Dario said:
“This was my first conference and was doing my best to have good results from my work and to put together a good scientific paper and presentation, regardless of the award. The award came as a surprise to me; it was great to receive it and it makes me feel like my work is going in the right direction.”
The prize is named after the mathematician and aero-acoustician Sir James Lighthill.
