With over 75 tickets being sold for the first ever Bright Club event, five researchers presented their research through the medium of stand-up comedy. It was hosted by Joe Hart, now professional comedian and previous student at the University, and headlined by Iszi Lawrence.

Jess Spurrell, one of the event organisers and a PhD student said:

“We’re a very, very happy team. [The first event] can only be described as a resounding success!”

A member of the audience commented:

“My feeling is that there is a change happening in this city, from a place where everyone is doing their own things in their own places, to a real sense of a community being built. I love the way that you are contributing to this change through comedy.”

Bright Club will now hold quarterly events that will see PhD and Postdoctoral researchers from the University and Southampton Solent University presenting their research at a local venue through stand-up comedy.
