Reliving Freshers’ Week

Just because you’re a returning student doesn’t mean there aren’t things to get involved with during this year’s Freshers’ Week.

Campus 3

There’s still an opportunity to pick up some freebies as Freshers’ Week begins with the Union Fayre on Monday 21 September. The rest of the week is quite open for those who aren’t first years, so take advantage of your last bit of study-free time and the fact that you know where everything is.

You could use Freshers’ Week to try out a new society, which may be a lot easier a year or two down the line now you’re settled in. You can skip the Bunfight, head to the societies section of the Students’ Union website and join societies from the comfort of your own home. Consider venturing out with housemates to a taster session; the Bhuddist Meditation Society is hosting a session on Wednesday 23 September, and keep an eye out for other societies too.

Alternatively, if you are already involved with a society during your time here and have a committee position, you will get to experience the Bunfight from the other side, and you’ll still avoid the queues.

If you fancy making use of your experience at the University to help others, the SUSU Peer Support Scheme is open for applications to become a Peer Supporter until Friday 25 September.

There’s less of a schedule for returning students when it comes to night life, because after one or two years hopefully you know where you fancy heading – although bear in mind that every venue will probably be full to capacity. Or, if you’ve volunteered as a Freshers’ Rep, you get the luxury of completely reliving Freshers’ week.

Use the week to let off some steam, and maybe get a bit of relaxation in if you haven’t managed to get enough during the summer.

Have a look over the SUSU calendar to keep up to date with the events.
