Southampton leads debate on saving water

The University is holding an event in London to highlight research, conducted with Southern Water, into the effectiveness of water metering.

The findings of a project by Southampton economists Dr Carmine Ornaghi and Professor Mirco Tonin will be presented at the event Managing Water Demand in the Palace of Westminster on the 17 September 2015, hosted by Southampton Itchen MP Royston Smith.  A presentation detailing the project findings will be followed by a panel discussion on water metering and water efficiency.

The research found that customers change their consumption behaviour much earlier than anticipated and that water savings are higher than expected.

The panel for the event includes former environment minister Richard Benyon MP, Trevor Bishop from the Environment Agency, Professor Michael Price from Georgia State University, Southern Water’s Strategy and Communications Director Simon Oates, and Jacob Tompkins, MD of water efficiency group Waterwise.
