Southampton to compete in University Challenge

Today at 20:00 a team of four of our students will compete against St Catharine’s College, Cambridge in University Challenge on BBC2.

TX 11 UC Series 22 - Southampton

The team will be led by their captain Tricia Goggin, a Biomedical Engineering PhD student. The rest of the team is made up of William Cable, studying an MA in History, Rowland Sadler, Third Year Biological Sciences student, and Sarah Stock, a Third Year Chemistry student.

The first round of University Challenge begins with 28 teams selected from the 130 entered this year, and the University’s team must win their round in order to be guaranteed a spot in the final 16 for the next round of the competition.

Team Captain, Tricia, said:

“We did lots of practice in the weeks leading up to it, although it’s hard to predict what the questions will be like. It was all filmed at the studios in Manchester and it was a great experience being backstage and seeing how it is all put together.  We were all nervous at first but Jeremy and the team were good at putting us at ease.  Once the famous music starts and it all gets going you forget about the cameras and enjoy the game.”

The episode will be shown in The Bridge tonight at 20:00, and the University’s team will be there to watch too.
