Professor Mark Hanson features in medical journal, The Lancet

Professor Mark Hanson, Director of the Institute of Developmental Sciences and British Heart Foundation Professor of Cardiovascular Science, features in the October edition of the Lancet online.

His profile comes in advance of the publication of a Diabetes and Endocrinology series on pre-conception and maternal obesity, written by Mark and colleagues, which will appear in the Lancet next year.

Professor Hanson is one of the UK’s leading researchers on developmental pathways to disease. He is a founder member and current President of the International Society for the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease.

He has served on a range of committees in government, for charities and NGOs focusing on the importance of adopting a life course perspective to new ways of reducing the burden of non-communicable disease globally. He was also one of the founders of the University’s LifeLab educational initiative for Hampshire school students.

Overseas he holds visiting appointments in several universities, including Auckland and Singapore. You can read the full Lancet profile here.
