Business Model Review – reporting on progress

The Business Model Review was initiated earlier in the year to help us understand the opportunities and challenges ahead for the University of Southampton in an increasingly competitive and business-minded higher education sector.

Consultants from PwC have been on campus over the summer helping to lead this work. They have been collecting a large amount of data about the University to answer four fundamental questions:

1)      How robust is the University’s strategy and can it be delivered?

2)      What new and diversified sources of income can help support the delivery of the strategy?

3)      How can we manage our costs so that we have sufficient funds to invest in the future?

4)      How could a different business model help us to deliver all of the above?

Thank you to colleagues who contributed to this process by attending workshops, asking questions and providing information.

We are now at the end of the first phase of the project, and our PwC colleagues will spend the next few weeks completing their analysis before sharing their findings with the new Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Christopher Snowden.

Sir Christopher will evaluate the outputs with his leadership team throughout the autumn, and an overview will be shared with the University community later in the year, so that colleagues have an opportunity to discuss the findings.

The project team will continue to provide updates throughout the autumn. In the meantime, the Business Model Review SharePoint pages have been refreshed, and contain information about what has happened so far.
