Open session: Meet the Science Editor of The Conversation

The Media Relations team is hosting an open session, aimed at academics and PHD researchers, to meet with Miriam Frankel, Science Editor of The Conversation, from 11.00 to 13.00 on Monday 12 October in the Senate Room (37/4049).

The Conversation is a news and opinion website which combines ‘academic rigour’, with ‘journalistic flair’. It offers academics the opportunity to express their expert views on current affairs stories and to discuss their own research with a growing audience. Contributors receive readership figures and other data so they can judge the impact of their articles.

The Conversation is an increasingly well-read outlet and articles published on their site are routinely republished by major news organisations, such as The Guardian, The Independent and CNN.

Before joining The Conversation, Miriam worked for four years as a reporter and news editor of Research Fortnight, a specialist publication focusing on science, technology and higher education policy. She has also previously written for publications including New Scientist, Nature and Physics World.

For the first hour Miriam will be talking about The Conversation, discussing how academics at Southampton can get involved and taking your questions. After this, there will be half an hour to meet with Miriam and discuss any story ideas you might have.
