Public Policy@Southampton Policy Commissions Competition is now open

Public Policy@Southampton are pleased to announce the opening of a new commissioned call, with three themes, for the 2016 academic year. Proposals with a strong foundation for policy-focused engagement and impact will be considered from individuals, research teams and interdisciplinary groups.

  1. EU Referendum:

The referendum on Britain’s membership of the European Union is scheduled for 2017. Applications will be considered that not only look at the political impact of the outcome, but also the anticipated economical, historical, and cultural repercussions of the contentious poll.

  1. Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):

If member states agree the draft SDG, set at the UN summit in September, they will become applicable from January 2016 and create the framework for future development policies. We are looking for dynamic and informed research evidence for policy-making on several aspects of the global development agenda and the SDGs.

  1. Open Call:

Alternatively, we are open to topical and controversial project proposals that set the policy agenda, represent blue sky thinking and are underpinned by existing research.

Most importantly for us, we want to hear ideas that are avant-garde, provocative and with great potential to make an impact. We don’t expect all the details worked through and arrangements tied down – the team at Public Policy@Southampton will use their skills and expertise to devise enticing and policy-relevant engagement strategies with the winning commissions.

Applicants may request funding to support associated research costs. The deadline for application is Wednesday 28 October, with winners expected to be announced the second week of November.
