Countdown begins for British Art Show coming to Southampton

Today (9 October 2015) the prestigious British Art Show opens in Leeds, the first venue on its four stage tour around the country. In exactly one year, the show will be coming to Southampton as the opening exhibition at the John Hansard Gallery’s new city centre premises.

The British Art Show is widely recognised as the most ambitious and influential exhibition of contemporary British art, with artists chosen for their significant contribution over the past five years.

Director of the John Hansard, Stephen Foster, is delighted the curators have chosen to bring it to the city:

“To host the British Art Show is a tremendous coup for the John Hansard Gallery in partnership with Southampton City Art Gallery, particularly as the show is only held every five years.

“We are very much looking forward to its arrival in the city on 8 October 2016, when it opens at our exciting new city centre gallery space.”

Artists Eileen Simpson and Ben White (work pictured) are currently working with ECS and ISVR to create a bespoke artwork for the Southampton exhibition.
