Previously, Professor Poot led several other collaborative research projects, including on the economic integration of immigrants in New Zealand, and on migrant diversity and regional disparity in Europe.

Professor Poot has been working in recent years particularly on international and internal migration, the economics of cultural diversity, local labour markets, regional development, housing markets, and forecasting.
