A total of twenty-seven scholars have enrolled from twenty-two different countries. This is the first year that the University has also offered a designated Southampton Chevening Partnership Scholarship, which was awarded to Susan Chiwenda.

The scholars were welcomed by Jo Doyle, Director of Student Recruitment and International Relations, who commented,

“Chevening Scholars are selected not only on the basis of their academic ability but also on their potential to become future leaders and ambassadors for the UK when they return to their home countries.

We are delighted to welcome so many scholars to Southampton this year.  We look forward to following their progress while they are with us and in their future careers.”

The event was also attended by Professor David Wilson, Associate Dean (Medicine), who sat on the Partnership Award selection panel, and Frankie Clarke, Programme Officer at the Chevening Secretariat.

Chevening Scholarships are the UK Government’s highly regarded scholarship scheme which funds international students to study a Masters programme in the UK.

The fully-funded scholarships are open to students from over 160 countries worldwide. The 2016 scholarship round is currently open for applications. For further information, see our Chevening Scholarships webpage.
