First Xiamen University PhD scholars arrive

In partnership with Xiamen University, China, the University has established a scholarship scheme to receive up to 40 PhD students over the next ten years.

The scholars are selected jointly by both Universities following their Bachelor degree studies at Xiamen. Successful students are also awarded funding from the Chinese Scholarship Council.

The first two scholars, Yuejie Liu (PhD English) and Luping Xiang (PhD Electronic and Electrical Engineering), were welcomed by Professor James Vickers, Director of the Doctoral College and Alison Tebbutt, International Scholarships Officer.

Professor Vickers commented,

“We are delighted to welcome Yuejie and Luping to Southampton. Xiamen University is one of our key partners and we look forward to increasing our collaboration over the coming years.”

The 2016 scholarships will be open for applications shortly. You can find further information about scholarships supported by the Chinese Scholarships Council on the University website.

The University also recently entered into partnership to deliver the International Foundation Year at Xiamen University’s International College.
