Conclusion of 2015-16 Higher Education pay negotiations

The University has received notification from Universities & Colleges Employers Association (UCEA) that a conclusion has now been reached in respect of the 2015-16 Higher Education pay negotiations with four of the five sector trade unions.

The Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) has decided that it is not able to settle the round and is proposing to ballot its members on industrial action.  However, University and College Union (UCU) and Unite have both decided to bring their disputes over the pay offer to an end. UNISON had accepted the deal in July, following emphatic votes by their members.

This notification allows participating Higher Education Institutes to implement the pay award, backdated to 1 August 2015. The award gives a base pay uplift of 1% on all points of the 51 point spine, save for the first eight points where larger increases apply (of between 2.65% and 1.2%).

Equally importantly, this conclusion now allows UCEA and the four sector trade unions to progress with the two important pieces of joint work related to the gender pay gap and hourly-paid and casual employment.

The University will apply the pay award in November’s payroll.
