The Southampton University Road Cycling Club (SURC) has unveiled a campaign to raise £4000 for a special bike maintenance stand on Highfield campus.
The stand and heavy duty pump (pictured) will benefit staff and students who cycle to the University. The equipment will be installed on Highfield campus and will be free for all to use, at any time of day, throughout the year.
Attached to the stand are a set of basic tools; a second set of more advanced tools to be kept in the Students’ Union will also be funded. Cyclists can hang their bikes up to perform a multitude of repairs, from changing a puncture to adjusting brakes. The heavy duty pump will also be available year round to increase cyclist safety by allowing them to maintain their tyres at the correct pressure.
SURC is fundraising using a crowdfunding platform in conjunction with the Office of Development and Alumni Relations (ODAR) and has received support from the City Council, Uni-Cycle and Students’ Union. The club must reach the full amount before the 22 November and is relying on donations to do so. Each donor who gives £5 or more will receive a reward, from getting their name on the pump for £15, to free mechanical tutorials for £25.
If SURC raises the full amount, ODAR will match the funding to buy a second set of equipment for Boldrewood campus.
